About MTS

The origins of Maine Technical Source (Maine Surveyor’s Service) begin exclusively with a young Gus MacDonald – fresh out of the Coast Guard in 1974 working under apprenticeship servicing nautical compasses. Seeing a need in the marketplace, he began to focus on selling and repairing surveying instruments out of a small building in Yarmouth. From there the company has grown to have four locations throughout New England and New York.

The backbone of MTS has always been sales and service with the total solution customized with the customer being top of mind. A blending of “shoe-leather” customer service that meets the latest cutting-edge measurement technology – from the early EDM’s to the drones and scanners of today to cutting edge technology, we can only dream of in the future.

In 2017, Stuart MacDonald purchased MTS from his father, Gus. With new energy, a top-notch team and constant attention paid to our mission – we look forward to being of service for the next 50 years.
